BIOGRAPHY

Higo Jose

São Benedito, CE, 1994. Lives and works in São Paulo-SP.

Higo Jose's latest artistic endeavors have centered around the use of embroidery and sculpture as mediums for representing figures and symbols from the prehistoric era. This approach has been embraced as a way to delve into his intrigue for the past and the narrative of human history.

Within the realm of embroidery, Higo draws inspiration from the Paleolithic period's cave paintings – artistic depictions found in caves and shelters worldwide. These depictions often portray animals and humans, encapsulating some of the earliest known forms of artistic expression. Through embroidery, Higo Jose seeks to reimagine these figures on fabric. In the domain of sculpture, he explores the megalithic monuments of the Neolithic era. These monuments, like the iconic menhirs and dolmens, were constructed by ancient communities across the globe and carry profound symbolic and cultural importance, signifying pivotal landmarks in human advancement. Employing materials such as stone, clay, and wood, Higo Jose crafts sculptures that evoke the very essence of these monuments, aspiring to encapsulate both their forms and meanings within his artworks.

These artistic choices bear a profound personal resonance for Higo Jose, stemming from his birth in a city near Serra da Capivara, one of Latin America's premier archaeological sites. Since childhood, he has been steeped in this rich cultural and archaeological heritage, igniting a genuine passion for prehistory and its myriad artistic expressions.
